Contentment

Recently I read a devotion titled Enthusiasm. It opened with, “Spirit is the source of all energy and zeal. If I am out of touch with Spirit, out of alignment with my divine nature, my energy may lessen. When I am centered in God however, the energy of divine life wells up within me, supercharging my mind, body, and spirit”. It went on to suggest that if I am “fueled by the Divine, I have all the vitality I need to accomplish what is mine to do. Each day I am excited about the opportunity to grow into the person I am meant to be.”

Well can I say that recently I had not been excited about too much of anything? I had to talk myself into doing almost everything that I needed to do. Romans 8:6 says, “To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace”. As I reflected back on the past few weeks and thought about how “un-peaceful” my life had been, I quickly realized I was operating in the flesh. I was focused on fleshly desires and I was using my strength to accomplish them.

Earlier this week I was obedient to the voice of God and chose to “be still” and know that God is God. At that point the chaos began to unfold into divine order. I had been feeling victimized by a life experience only to discover a deeper blessing in it. It’s quite simple – Jesus did it.  Yes, the Spirit is indeed willing but the flesh is weak. But if we keep our mind stayed on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, then the Holy Spirit, our unfailing source, will fill us with spiritual energy and enthusiasm to do all that we need to do. When we are focused on the things of Christ, we do not have time to focus on things of the flesh.

When we are content in Christ we can patiently wait on God for the desires of our heart. Philippians 4:11-13 states, “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength”.

Yes, I can do all this through him who gives me strength. What would I do without Jesus? He makes my world go round when it was upside down. Lord you make my heart speak loud. Thank you, Lord for filling me with spiritual energy and enthusiasm. Thank you for peace and contentment.
