Travel PlansWhen God opens the door we have to go in. The opportunity may not come again so we are called to go in. In Chronicles Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30). But because the people did not trust God and were not willing to move on, they continued to wander in the wilderness for another thirty seven years before they entered into Canaan. Because God made the promise and God is not a man that he should lie, the land of milk and honey was delayed but not denied. But look how long they had to wait simply because they refused to trust God and say, “I’m going in!” How many bumps in the road could they have avoided if they had just trusted God and said, “I’m going in!”

God is well able. We just have to follow where the Lord leads. How do we do that? We stand on the promises of God which are found in God’s Holy Word. Proverbs 16:3 in the NIV says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed”. My favorite scripture, Joshua 1:8 says, “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; mediate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful”. God is well able to do anything but fail. We simply have to trust the Lord.  You simply have to “trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own (Proverbs 3:5 MSG)

In order for us not to be misled or moved out of the will of God, we should always consult the Lord. Proverbs 3:6 advises us to acknowledge God in all our ways so He can direct our paths. A different translation of Proverbs 16:3 says so commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established. The word establish is defined as start, create, begin or launch. So when you are ready to launch out, you need to follow the Lord’s direction, just as the children of Israel did.

As Pharaoh released the Israelites and they began their journey into the desert, Moses witnessed God’s power; “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light” (Exodus13:21). This same cloud filled the Temple in 2 Chronicles 5:13. Since this was not the first time they had seen a cloud, they knew they were going somewhere. They knew they were moving forward. They knew they were going higher.

Thank God for the cloud. Our path only becomes clear when we are in motion. So trust God, follow the cloud and move on. Say, “I’m going in!” Then move on down the road, trusting God to bring you to an expected end that is exceedingly, abundantly above anything that you could ever ask, think, or imagine according to his power that is at work within you. God is well able, so trust God and move on.
